 Bed Bug Busters: About Us
Janet Friedman (owner) created Bed Bug Busters NY in 2008 to address a need for a new service: preparing homes for bed bug treatment. As a veteran Broadway stage manager turned personal organizer, Janet saw an opportunity to help people with this extraordinary challenge. It became clear that the most important qualities needed in our staff would be compassion, sensitivity, and trustworthiness. Of course we would provide meticulous attention to detail in following the protocols recommended by the city’s top pest management professionals. Where would a stage manager look for such people? Janet turned to the Actors Work Program – the career counseling arm of the Actors’ Fund of America. Soon she had a group of “between jobs” actors and stage managers who have proved over and over again that the human touch is what is required in going through people’s personal belongings. Bed Bug Busters NY has since become NYC’s top prep company, achieving a high level of respect in NYC’s pest management world as well as with our nearly 300 satisfied clients.
Meagan Gilliland (partner) grew up in Wisconsin in an active arts-oriented family. After earning her BFA in Acting from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point in 2008, she moved to Chicago and soon after to New York City. She has been incredibly valuable to the company and we are sorry that she will be moving back to Chicago. She remains a partner in the business.
Amanda Boekelheide (project coordinator)
is an actor in NYC, and met Janet through the Actor's Work
Program. She originally hails from the West coast, received her MFA in
Acting from Columbia University, and is naturally quite tidy, perhaps verging
on obsessive. Amanda happily works with the rest of the professional,
fun, and conscientious BBB team to navigate, organize, and assist in situations
that can be high stress for the client.
Marci Skolnick (partner/project coordinator)
hails from the San Francisco Bay Area. She made her way to New York 10
years ago to study theatre at Hofstra University. Marci met Janet when
she was guest-lecturing at Hofstra. Marci came aboard Bed Bug Busters NY
at the very beginning, soon becoming a partner in the business. She
embodies all the qualities that make a good stage manager, and, by
extension, a great bed bug buster.
